Just kidding! I know decluttering and organizing can seem tedious, time consuming and overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Create a little organizing fun and make decluttering more bearable with my top 3 tricks for switching up your mindset!
Music is magic. It can change your attitude and frame of mind. A great song can transport you to another time and place, so blast your favorite song and dance your way through the sweeping, mopping and dusting. It’s a good distraction and you’ll finish that chore before you realize it.
Are you competitive? Then use this to your advantage and get the decluttering done even more quickly! Have a Chore Challenge or a Decluttering Duel with your spouse, roommate or children. Compete with each other to see who can reach their weekly cleaning goals first. Maybe the winner gets breakfast in bed. Make it interesting.
Are you motivated by goals? Then set a decluttering goal and reward yourself for doing the tasks you enjoy the least. Get motivated by knowing you will have a well-deserved treat when you’re done. For instance, indulge in a piece of chocolate after cleaning the toilets (wash your hand really well first!) or watch your favorite show after decluttering your closet. Find a reward that motivates you. Focus on the reward, not the task. No cheating…you only get the reward after the task at hand is complete.
Take the work out of household chores and decluttering by switching up your mindset. Take the negative out and find the fun. Then you can move on to something you’d rather be doing. Like eating chocolate!
